What a busy weekend. I went home to Connecticut for Father’s Day. My parents had a lot of chores around the house that needed attention because my brother is in the hospital again and it is taking up a lot of their time going down to Bridgeport to visit him every day. It felt weird not having him around during the day, but at least we all got to go see him after we did some things around the house. My dad and I changed the brakes in our car and fixed the shocks on the truck while my sister planted new tomato and pepper plants in the garden. Then I mowed the lawn while my dad helped turn over the garden. When we all finished, my other brother came over, and my mom had lasagna ready. It would’ve been nice to do something more fun, with the entire family, but we got a lot of stuff done and it made my dad happy. That’s what it’s all about on this occasion. Hope everyone else had a nice fathers day too.

I enjoyed running in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge today in Central Park. Luckily NYSPI had a team that I could run with, because I wanted to run it last year with my friend and I couldn’t. Although I didn’t race it, it was nice meeting some new runners that I work with, that I never knew run. We also got a pretty neat team uniform that I will wear in the future to always remember the fun Brain Stimulation Division.

i have to say that leaning toward nyc marathon this fall. before boston i was a little hesitant to commit to nyc, but after boston im hungry for redemption and to prove to myself that april 20th was a fluke. if anyone was wondering what happened to me and why i ran about 45 min slower than my goal, i ended up stopping in the red cross tent at mile 19.5 to bandage up some blisters on my feet that were absolutely killing me since around mile 12. At mile 8, I felt something weird but i didnt want to stop, i thought it would go away. by 16 the pain was making me lose concentration for the newton hills and by 19 i couldn’t take it anymore. i was so close to dropping out but i just wanted to say i finished it and not have to come back. plus i knew that there’s no way im going to be doing NJ or RI with the mcat coming up. so i thought i learned my lesson after mayors cup shoe problems but i guess i didnt. my flats felt fine beforehand so i dont know what happened or if it was the socks or what. maybe a combo of all the pre-race stress, the shoe pain, and the head wind just all wore at me mentally. i appreciate everyone comin’ up to watch, and i’m sure that if i was cruisin’ through on 2:35 pace, you guys would’ve been a huge help right there at at the end.
i’d really like to do the nyc marathon this fall. i was pretty let down with myself in boston but i really want to give it another shot being much smarter about my training this time. i need to lead in better, no more 29 milers in a day, and i will make absolutely certain that my shoes wont give me troubles mid race. plus i’ll have no mcat related worries. i think im made for the nyc course over boston. it would just be so hard to let go of marathons after the disaster of boston.
it is too bad that marathons wipe you out for good for the remainder of the season, because i’d like to finally give back and help the team out after they have gotten me into the shape i’m in. i can do that at club champs in aug, and i’ll commit to that, but if i do nyc i wont be able to run well at nationals. i’m thinking chicago 2010 would be my last shot at a solid marathon PR before i enter med school and throw in the towel on running as the work gets super heavy post chicago. maybe i’ll make a guest appearance here and there, ray biersbach style though. we shall see as the summer goes on.
Here is a picture I took of my foot, about 35 days after the marathon. I had the exact same looking blister on my right foot too. So strange– I have never had them in this spot before.

I won the Woodbridge 5k Road Race today. It started on Pease Road, near the woodbridge soccer fields. It was a pretty low key race. In fact I started behind a pack of 3rd graders, that I had to weave around for the first 20 seconds of the race. I think it’s going to look funny in the newspaper having a line of 12 yr olds and then all these big guys behind them.
I went out hard the first mile in 5:05 then slacked off. We went through 2 miles in about 10:50. My final time was 17:10. Not spectacular, but for early in the season, in the pouring rain, and in the middle of a 80-mile week, I’ll take it.
